Hooping is a term used to describe a revolutionized activity. Born of Hula Hooping, which gained popularity in the United States in the 1950s with Wham-O's trademarked "Hula Hoops," hooping involves handcrafted hoops and a new way of movement.
Hoopers use hoops that tend to be larger and heavier than traditional hoops and movement within the hoop is often akin to dancing. The art of hooping and hoop dance has been picking up momentum for over a decade now, since the late 1990s.
As popularity of hooping rises, along with a renewed interest in the now retro fun of the Hula Hoop, the world is once again on the brink of a hoop frenzy!
Audria Larsen aka Miss Audacious, the founder of Audacious Hoops, has been hooping her entire life. Drawn to the hoop since she was a tot, Miss Audacious won countless hula hooping contests as a child. Her favorite hooping hangout was a local, retro diner called Flip's Cafe, offering ice cream sundaes to the contest winner. Miss Audacious ate a lot of sundaes in the early 1980s!
As a teen, well before the hoop fitness craze of the late 1990s and early 2000s set in, Miss Audacious loved to hoop in her backyard as a funky way to burn some calories and get a fun, cardiovascular workout. While a jump rope was also part of her repertoire, the hoop always won out and Miss Audacious would contentedly spin her hoop for hours next to the sunflowers.
Fast forward to 2005. Miss Audacious was exploring various dance forms to incorporate in her acts with the performance group, Super Happy Funtime. While looking into traditional hula dance, Miss Audacious stumbled upon the world renowned hoop dancer, Hoopalicious. Later, she phoned her mother and exclaimed, "I know what I am going to do for the rest of my life!"
After mastering moves with store bought, children's hoops and purchasing a few adult hoops, Miss Audacious created her own line of custom hoops, Audacious Hoops, and began teaching Hoop Dance Fusion classes soon after. She now avidly incorporates multiple, pro, mini hoops into her performances and has wowed audiences from East to West, across the United States. Miss Audacious has performed for every type of event from large corporate conferences and national festivals to private gatherings and intimate parties.
In 2009, Miss Audacious created her own performance group, the Atomic Hoop Troupe. The group, comprised of professional dancers, variety arts performers and acrobats, officially kicked off in the first week of January 2010 and was an instant hit. In a few short months, the Atomic Hoop Troupe performed for thousands of people at various festivals and high profile events.
Beyond her love of performance, Miss Audacious deeply enjoys sharing her hoop passion with others. Hoop dance is a truly transformative art form, it changed her life and it can change yours!
